What is Finland’s Beer Society/Suomen Olutseura?

Finland’s Beer Society is Finnish beer lovers’ national consumer organisation. The society’s aim is, in a positive spirit, to foster and promote beer culture, act as the beer consumers’ interest group and increase the social respect of both beer and its consumers.

This spirit includes a relaxed and informal attitude and having a good time whilst respecting the noble drink.

Individual members can be either direct members of SOS or through local beer societies.

Finland’s Beer Society is beer enthusiasts’ and consumers’ own organisation that:

- produces current information

- offers concrete benefits

- acts as an influence in alcohol policy

Who can join? How can one influence?

Any person of good reputation and over 18 years of age who accepts the society’s purpose and constitution can join the society by paying the initiation and membership fees confirmed by the association’s Annual General Meeting.

Instructions for establishing a local beer society and contact information of local societies are published in the Finland’s Beer Society’s OLUTPOSTI-magazine as well as on the society’s internet pages.

What is Beer Union ry?

The Beer Union is an independent national union of beer consumers’ societies. It aims to defend the consumers’ rights and cultivate beer culture by campaigning for the preservation of a varied selection of beers.

The Beer Union acts as the representative of beer consumers towards the authorities, trade and distribution business. The Union’s members are both individuals as well as registered beer societies and associations.

What is European Beer Consumers Union?

The European co-ordination and interest group, European Beer Consumers Union, EBCU, works as the umbrella organisation of national unions. EBCU looks after the beer lovers’ views towards the European Union and the authorities in the field.

The union represents beer lovers by championing for beers and the freedom to brew, and by promoting the quality of and respect for beer. Its aim is to preserve national and local habits and traditions as well as to campaign against any activities likely to lead to further concentration of control in the European brewing industry.

Finland’s Beer Union is one of the 12 members of EBCU.
